Celtic spirituality lecture and discussion Sept. 19
Georgia Southern University’s new director of religious studies, Hemchand Gossai, will present a lecture and discussion on Celtic spirituality Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. in the College of Information Technology, Room 1004.
Gossai’s talk, ‘Celtic Spirituality: Old Ways, New Horizons,” will examine the evolution and present-day revival of distinctive Christian traditions in Celtic countries. He will touch on subjects such as Saint Patrick, who evangelized Ireland in the fifth century; the flourishing Irish monasticism of the sixth century and Celtic spirituality today. In addition to discussing the history of Celtic spirituality, Gossai will also speculate on its future.
Gossai is a biblical scholar who earned his Ph.D. at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.
The lecture and discussion are sponsored by the University’s Center for Irish Studies. It is free and open to the public.
