Study abroad in Vietnam culminates in June 22-July 31 exhibition at the Averitt

Nine art students and four faculty members who traveled to Vietnam May 16-31 will present an exhibition of art resulting from the trip. Their work will be on display in the Legends Gallery of the Averitt Center in downtown Statesboro Friday, June 22, through Tuesday, July 31. The exhibition, titled “Revisioning Vietnam,” includes work by both students and faculty. An opening reception for the artists will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 22.

During their visit the students, accompanied by Georgia Southern faculty members Jeff Beekman, Megan Jacobs, Jessica Hines, and Mariana Depetris, completed two courses, ‘Visual Culture of Vietnam,” and ‘Studio Exploration Abroad.” The first course encouraged the students to consider Vietnamese art in relationship to its audiences and environment. For the second course, students created a series of artworks based on their direct experience in Vietnam.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at Georgia Southern University. It is free and open to the public. For more information call 912-681-5358.
