Author Marsha Marks to Speak at Women’s Forum Sept. 18
Local women are invited to have lunch with the author who has been called the ‘Erma Bombeck of the Bible.” Noted author Marsha Marks will be the speaker for this year’s first Women’s Forum at Georgia Southern University, Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building.
Marks has written six books, including 101 Amazing Things About God. Her articles and short stories have appeared in such publications as Campus Life Magazine, The Christian Reader, and Writer’s Digest, and she has appeared on NBC, CBS and ABC.
Marks is also a nationally-known inspirational humorist. She loves sharing how one child from a broken home, who couldn’t spell and couldn’t punctuate, ended up signing a six-figure book deal. Her motto is ‘It’s not rejection, it’s redirection.”
That philosophy comes through in her book Flying by the Seat of My Pants: Flight Attendant Adventures on a Wing and a Prayer. Marks has also written the books 101 Simple Lessons for Life; If I Ignore It, It Will Go Away; Mary McCowski Was Not a Pretty Girl; and When You Were 8, When I Am 80.
This is the first of three programs in this year’s Women’s Forum series hosted by Georgia Southern’s Continuing Education Center. The program will begin with a social and exhibitors from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon; that will be followed by lunch and Marsha Marks’ keynote speech from noon to 1.
The Women’s Forum is an opportunity for women to come together to socialize, network, and address issues that face women. The Forum is intended to help women examine their own careers and learn from other women about ways to balance jobs and personal lives.
The registration fee is $25, which includes lunch and the program. To register, call (912) 478-5551 or visit www.georgiasouthern.edu.
