Georgia Southern University Sets Record For Enrollment
Georgia Southern University released its enrollment figures for the Fall 2009 semester showing record growth in enrollment with 19,086 students.
‘By raising academic standards at Georgia Southern, not only has the academic quality of our students grown, but enrollment growth has followed,” said Bruce Grube, president of Georgia Southern University. ‘We continue to see record levels of interest from prospective students and parents who are looking for the right fit and want to be more than just a number. While Georgia Southern has grown in academic quality and physical size, the small feel of our campus and the personal attention of our faculty and staff continue to be a major attraction for our more than 19,000 students.”
Georgia Southern’s student body this fall semester includes students from 48 U.S. states and more than 90 countries. In addition to welcoming a record number of freshmen to campus, graduate enrollment rose by more than 320 students to 2,600 graduate students. Georgia Southern also continues to attract students through its popular online degree programs (http://online.georgiasouthern.edu). Enrollment in these programs continues to grow and attract students not only in the U.S., but around the world.
‘While this is the largest enrollment we have had at Georgia Southern, it is also one of the best that we have had,” said Teresa Thompson, vice president of student affairs and enrollment management. ‘We continue to attract outstanding students with average freshmen SAT scores above 1100 and our average GPA for these students continues to be above the 3.0 level.”
The University continues to be recognized nationally for its accomplishments, having been featured in U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges and Universities. Georgia Southern was recently recognized as one of the Top 100 Best Values among Public Colleges and Universities by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and its College of Business Administration was recently named one of the Best 301 Business Schools in the country by Princeton Review. In addition, Georgia Southern was recently ranked as one of the safest campuses in the U.S. byThe Daily Beast, a popular national opinion Web site.
Grube says that while the University is happy with the increased enrollment and recognition, ‘our focus continues to be on ensuring that we maintain the small-feel that Georgia Southern has become known for providing its students. All of our planning begins and ends with students. This is a very important time in Georgia Southern’s history and it is well-positioned for future growth.”
