The event on January 29, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center is presented by Georgia Southern’s Multicultural Student Center and the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. O’Brien’s theme will focus on social justice, public service and continuing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Soledad O’Brien is a veteran, Emmy award-winning journalist who anchors the CNN morning show “Starting Point.” She has traveled the world covering stories and producing documentaries focusing on minorities and their challenges and struggles in America.
“You can’t deny the work that she has done to bring attention to multiple social justice issues,” said Mrs. Dorsey Baldwin, the director of Georgia Southern’s Multicultural Student Center. “I think it is going to be an amazing experience to listen to her story and testimony about the challenges she faced and obstacles she has overcome. O’Brien will address a lot of the social justice issues that she has tackled. I think people will be able to relate to that regardless of their political affiliation. She has an amazing story that she will be able to share with Georgia Southern and our community.”
Tickets for the free event will not be distributed; however, seating is limited. There will be time for media interviews before her speech at the Performing Arts Center. Details on that opportunity along with information for the media on covering her presentation will be released at a later date.
