Torres-Capeles Appointed Executive Director of Continuing Education

Belkis Torres-Capeles, Ph.D., has been named executive director of Continuing Education for the Division of Continuing Education.
Jean Bartels, Ph.D., RN, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, recently announced the appointment.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Belkis Torres-Capeles to the position of executive director of Continuing Education,” said Bartels. “I am confident she is well prepared to take on the responsibilities of sustaining the accomplishments and traditional successes of the Division of Continuing Education while moving the Division to its next level of distinction.”
In her new role, effective August 18, 2014, Torres-Capeles will be responsible for the overall management, operation, strategic planning and leadership for all of the day-to-day functions and services of the Division. In addition, she will oversee the operations of all activities, programming and conference management facilities, to include the Nessmith-Lane conference center and the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.
Prior to joining the University, Torres-Capeles served as the Vice President of Programs for the Boulder Institute of Microfinance. Previously she worked at Valmark Securities, Inc., as the Director of Conference Planning.
Torres-Capeles received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Counseling, and Conflict Management and her Ph.D., in Cultural Foundations of Education, Leadership, and Administration from Kent State University. She has developed curriculum and taught courses online and in the classroom on topics such as multicultural education, socio-cultural economics, international and intercultural perspectives, women and gender studies, personal enrichment and workforce development at Kent State University and in continuing education venues.
Torres-Capeles is currently a board member for Leading and Advocating Together in New Arenas and holds membership in numerous organizations including the Comparative and International Education Society, the Professional Convention Management Association and the Financial Industry Corporate Planners organization.
