Georgia Southern University to Host the first World Universities Forum in the United States

Georgia Southern University will welcome “The Eighth World Universities Forum” to the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St. in downtown Savannah, on Feb. 5-6.

The gathering at the Coastal Georgia Center is the first time the World Universities Forum (WUF) will hold its annual conference in the United States. Previous forums have been held in Switzerland, India, Hong Kong, Canada, Portugal and Greece.

More than 30 countries will be represented at the international gathering of global scholars and policymakers to examine the role and future of the university in a changing world. Devon Jensen, Ph.D., interim associate dean of Georgia Southern’s Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies, is one of the keynote speakers. Jensen, a member of WUF’s advisory board, has researched, taught and studied Higher Education Leadership topics for more than a decade. He is currently conducting a large-scale research project that explores the relationship between higher education and economic development.

“I am excited to have this international group of educators, scholars and leaders come to Savannah to explore and discuss the important higher education questions and challenges of our day,” said Jensen.  “Then to have these delegates experience Georgia Southern University will bring an increased international awareness of our university,” he added.

Managed by Georgia Southern University, the Coastal Georgia Center is an academic conference, meeting and special event venue nestled in the heart of the beautiful Historic District of Savannah, Georgia, adjacent to the Savannah Visitor Information Center.  The Coastal Georgia Center fulfills its mission by offering graduate level courses, hosting events that promote economic development, and serving as an affordable venue for professional and continuing education classes and conferences.
