Social Gerontology Conference
The Center for Social Gerontology at Georgia Southern University will host its inaugural Social Gerontology Conference Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Center.
Guests will benefit from presentations with keynote speaker and Laughter Yoga expert, Celeste Green, as well as other noteworthy presentations on aging-related topics that are trending today.
There will be breakout sessions on a range of topics including sex in late life, dealing with older adults with mental illness and cognitive disorders, death and dying and how to support adult children of aging parents.
This one day conference will provide the opportunity for networking with others in the field, as well as an opportunity to learn new ideas from top professionals within the aging industry. The conference is geared toward supporting the efforts of professionals working with older adults but will also be of interest to academics and students.
The conference objective is to increase participants’ capacities to deliver effective programs that promote and enhance the strengths and adaptations, maximize well-being, health and mental health, and promote quality of life and positive social environments for the older persons they serve and their caregivers.
Participants will also have the opportunity to receive up to six continuing education credits from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Nursing Home Administrators, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) filed through the Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA) and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association (LPCA).
