Google, Georgia Southern University’s Center for Applied Cyber Education to offer free training, one-on-one help from Google staff April 25

Georgia Southern University’s Center for Applied Cyber Education (CACE) is partnering with Google and other local organizations to present the Grow With Google Savannah event at Service Brewing Company, 574 Indian Street, on April 25.

Grow with Google is an initiative to help those who make up the workforce of today and the students who will drive the workforce of tomorrow, access the best of Google’s training and tools to grow their skills, careers and businesses.

Ranked No. 35 for job growth in the U.S. and No. 65 for best place for business and careers by Forbes, Savannah is a perfect fit for the Grow with Google event. The tools and resources Grow with Google offers will help Georgians throughout the region develop new skills and help grow their businesses.

“It’s a natural fit for CACE to partner with Google to produce the Grow with Google Savannah event,” said Scott Scheidt, CACE executive director. “We are dedicated to supporting education that imparts the skills and concepts the 21st-century cyber workforce needs.”

CACE is an interdisciplinary center committed to being a leader in promoting cyber education, developing partnerships, educating and training the cyber-workforce. CACE collaborates with the armed services to provide cyber education training to local, regional and national military constituents. Georgia Southern is one of only 14 schools in the country that has both the National Security Agency Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence designations.

Google will host the free event at Service Brewing Company to help job seekers, students, teachers, entrepreneurs and small business owners improve their digital skills. Service Brewing was chosen as the location because of its amazing story. Kevin Ryan, a West Point graduate and former Army commander, was seeking something more from his career. After his wife, Meredith Sutton, gave him brewing supplies, the seed that became Service Brewing was planted. The couple launched Service Brewing with the help of almost two dozen investors–most of them veterans. The organizers of Grow with Google Savannah hope that as many veterans and non-veterans as possible will attend the free event at Service Brewing.

Savannah residents will have the opportunity to engage in interactive demonstrations, hands-on workshops and one-on-one coaching with Google staff. Topics will include online skills for growing small businesses, job search strategies, email basics, online safety and search engine optimization, among other topics. More information and registration for the event can be found here.
