| William A. Amponsah, associate professor of economics,
traveled to Seoul National University in Korea June 30-July 2 to
present his paper "Economic Development Challenges Stemming
from U.S. Textile Trade" to colleagues from all over the world
at the Globalization and the Rural-Urban Divide Conference. The
conference was organized by the International Agricultural Trade
Research Consortium and hosted by Seoul National University and
the Korea Rural Economic Institute. His paper, chosen from hundreds
of submissions, discussed the economic impacts of the recent trade
policy changes, especially the World Trade Organization’s
decision to end remaining quotas on textiles and clothing imports
established under the Multi-fiber Agreement, beginning on Jan. 1,
2005. |
| Greg Brock, associate professor of economics,
had his paper titled “Grain exports from 'virgin lands': Threat
or promise?” published recently in the Farm Policy Journal.

| Frank Fortune, assistant director in the Office
of Marketing and Communications, recently presented at the CASE
Design Institute Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. In addition to
presenting to graphic designers, Web designers and publications
directors, Fortune also taught two Adobe Photoshop classes. |
| Morgan Miles, associate professor of marketing,
has been selected as an Outstanding Reviewer at the Emerald Literati
Network Awards for Excellence 2008. He was recognized for the very
impressive and significant contribution he made as a reviewer for
the European Journal of Marketing throughout 2007. |
| Karl E. Peace, Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished
Cancer Scholar, and senior research scientist and professor in the
Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, was honored by the Georgia
House of Representatives on April 4, with House Resolution #2118.
Peace was recognized for his contributions to the medical field,
to the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, to Georgia Southern
University, and to the citizens of the State of Georgia. HR #2118
was championed by Representatives Lane of the 158th, Burns of the
157th, Parish of the 156th, Stephens of the 164th and Smith of the
113th. |

| COBA and CIT Dean Ron Shiffler sends kudos to
Information Technology and Computer Science faculty members Art
Gowan, Cheryl Aasheim, Jim Harris,
Kera Bell, Bob Cook, Teresa
Lee and Shanelle Carr. Collectively they
produced the ABET (American Board of Engineering Technology) Self-Evaluation
Reports for CS and for IT. Working together, the team met the July
1 report deadline. |
| Dwight Sneathen, assistant professor of accounting,
recently earned the Certified Public Accountant designation from
the State of Georgia. He also learned that his paper, “Evidential
effort and risk assessment in auditing,” will be published
in the Journal of Business and Economics Research. |
| Brent Wolfe, assistant professor of therapeutic
recreation, was recently elected President-Elect of the National
Therapeutic Recreation Society (NTRS), and will serve a three-year
term on the Board of Directors. The NTRS is a branch of the National
Recreation and Park Association, and specializes in the provision
of therapeutic recreation services for persons with disabilities
in clinical facilities and in the community. NTRS members include
practitioners, administrators, educators, volunteers, students and
consumers. |
