Improving Corporate Performance - Randy Gregg will present two professional development seminars in the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building. The morning seminar, “Strategies for Dealing with Difficult, Demanding or Angry Customers,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The afternoon seminar, “Basic CPR for Time Management,” will be held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $70 per seminar or $130 for the full day which includes lunch. Family Dog Training - This dog training course is for dogs 12 months and older. Family Dog I is an introductory class for dogs that are just beginning training or new to positive reinforcement. Participants will learn to teach their dog to pay attention when asked, come when called, walk on a loose leash, and lie down and stay. Dog management skills, socialization and problem solving will be stressed. Class size is limited. $165 per course. Sculpture Show - “Fire and Felt,” a sculpture showing by Kathleen Hubbard, assistant professor of art in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, Legends Gallery at the Averitt Center for Art. Hubbard will also be sharing the space with a number of her graduate students as part of the Art Education Program at Georgia Southern University.

Commencement - More than 2,300 students will participate during the University’s spring commencement exercises to be held at 9 a.m. in Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Georgia’s U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will address the graduates and their guests. On that morning, Statesboro listeners can tune to WVGS 91.9 FM for traffic updates and ongoing commencement coverage. In case of rain, commencement exercises will be moved to Hanner Fieldhouse, with ceremonies at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The University’s candidates for graduation represent the accomplishments of seven colleges and one academic program. They include 29 doctoral degree candidates, 361 master’s degree candidates and 2,003 bachelor’s degree candidates. Among the Spring 2008 graduates, more than 32 countries and 26 states are represented; however, 91.5 percent of those graduating are native Georgians. The youngest undergraduate is 18 years old, and the oldest graduate this year is 69. The average age for the graduating class is 25.

Archaeological Dig: Topper Site - For thousands of years, Native Americans have visited chert quarries along the Savannah River to fashion stone tools. Excavations at the Topper Site near one of these quarries has revealed one of the oldest Native American settlements, suggesting humans arrived on this continent much earlier than previously thought, perhaps as far back as 50,000 years ago! Wear comfortable walking shoes to tour the site, watch archaeologists in action and view some of the recently excavated artifacts. The trip departs from and returns to the Georgia Southern Museum. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be at least 18 years old and sign a site-specific waiver. Annual Advance Practice Update - The 24th annual Nurse Update is an opportunity for nurse practitioners, public health nurses, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists and physician assistants to attend multiple sessions on various clinical topics. Topics will be directed toward primary care, pediatrics and women’s health issues. ANCC Continuing Education credits will be offered, product and service exhibit representatives will be available, and participants will have opportunities to network with colleagues. Eagle Wildlife Center - The Center is open seven days a week, except Sundays during June, July and August and recognized holidays. Weekday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The weekend reptile show is at 2 p.m. Weekend flight show is at 3 p.m. When the temperatures exceed 80 degrees, birds are not on display.
The Center will not be open on Saturdays during the months of June, July and August.
 
  Expedition Georgia (through Aug. 3) -Museum.
