Broadway Musicals, Acrobatics, Comedy & Drama to Highlight Performing Arts Center’s 2012-2013 Performance Season

eagleheadGeorgia Southern University’s 2012 Performing Arts Center’s upcoming season has been designed to have something for everyone featuring popular broadway musicals, acrobatics, comedy and drama.  The season which will begin on Sept. 15 will include seven shows which the Center expects to draw thousands from throughout the region.

“This year’s season will be one of the best we have ever had,” says Carol Thompson, director of the Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern University. “The types of performances that the Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern hosts are typically only available in much larger cities.  This is an opportunity for families to attend some great shows at a very affordable price.”

The season kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 15 with 101 Years of Broadway, the number one Broadway touring concert in the U.S.  Georgia Southern will then play host to the National Circus of the People’s Republic of China who will perform “Cirque Chinois” on Tuesday, Oct. 16.  The season continues Friday, Nov. 30 as the stories of Sholem Aleichem come to life as the Center hosts a performance of Fiddler on the Roof.   To kick off the new year, the Center will host the romantic adventure, Cyrano de Bergerac on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.  The lights of broadway return to Statesboro just over a week later as Hooray for Hollywood takes the stage on Monday, Feb. 18.  Next on the schedule is Neil Simon’s hit play, Biloxi Blues on Thursday, March 14.  The season concludes with a first for the Performing Arts Center as it hosts Stormy Weather: The Lena Horne Project on Saturday, May 4.  Starring Mary Wilson of the Supremes, the show is a living, breathing biography featuring rare audio clips, video footage, true stories, and thrilling performances.
