Georgia Southern included in national 50 Best Online Master of Arts in Teaching degrees ranking

Georgia Southern University has been included in the 50 Best Online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees ranking by Best Education Degrees. The University, ranked No. 38, was one of only three universities in Georgia to be included on the annual list.

“We are very proud of the quality and rigor of our Master of Arts in Teaching degree to prepare and certify students to become classroom educators,” said Tracy Linderholm, Ph.D., professor and associate dean for graduate education and research in the College of Education (COE). “It is vital to have online options for the master’s program, as many students will complete their graduate education while working full-time, and this allows us to meet the needs of our diverse learners who would like to pursue new career goals.”

Methodology for the ranking was based on student success, which was determined by tuition costs, average financial aid packages and expected early career salary for graduates, and institutional excellence, which was measured by incoming test scores, student-to-faculty ratio and graduation rate. The COE’s outstanding value, personalized, career-oriented degree tracks were also noted.

The University’s MAT degree has two fully online concentrations, including special education and elementary education, and leads to initial teaching certification. Georgia Southern’s education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, which is recognized through reciprocity in many states across the country.
