Georgia Southern students to present multimedia projects at two pre-commencement showcases

Georgia Southern’s Russell Union Theater on the Statesboro Campus will be the scene of two multimedia showcases May 3-4 displaying student work created during the 2017-2018 academic year. All programs begin at 7:30 p.m.

The annual Media Arts Showcase on May 3 is sponsored by the Department of Communication Arts and will feature works by Georgia Southern students of all majors. The showcase is a faculty-curated program of work ranging from audio storytelling, commercials and news packages to documentaries and short films. Program awards in multimedia film and production (MMFP) will also be announced.

“The Media Arts Showcase is an opportunity for the communication arts students to share the stories they’ve been crafting over the past several months,” said Abbey Hoekzema, assistant professor of communication arts and the event’s primary organizer. “It’s also an opportunity to showcase the broad spectrum of media production done in the communication arts department. You’ll be able to see short films, documentaries, news packages, commercials and TV pilots.”

On May 4, students in the MMFP senior project classes will screen a short documentary, an audio drama, a TV pilot and three short fiction films.

Melanie Stone, Ph.D., assistant professor and MMFP area coordinator, described the senior project screening. “It’s the culmination and celebration of two semester’s worth of planning, pre-production and production. You will see three narrative shorts, an audio drama, one short documentary and a television pilot, all created by students enrolled in the senior project classes.”
