Georgia Southern’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs a bronze star sponsor for fifth annual Run for the Wounded

Georgia Southern University’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is a bronze star sponsor for the fifth annual 5K/10K Run for the Wounded at 6 p.m. on May 19 at historic Grayson Stadium at Daffin Park in Savannah, Georgia.

The University joins dozens of other community sponsors supporting this event hosted by the Nine Line Foundation and Nine Line Apparel. Proceeds from the race, which is held on Armed Forces Day, will go directly toward building Veterans Village, a transitional community for homeless veterans in Savannah. With 5K and 10K options available, this twilight run is great for any participant.

“The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs serves more than 3,500 students, which is the largest military-affiliated student population in the state,” said Phil Gore, director of the Department. “We work with offices across the Institution to ensure our military students, faculty, staff and alumni have access to programs and support services on campus.

“That same level of support extends past the University grounds and into the community, where we partner with veteran-owned businesses like Nine Line Apparel and Service Brewing, as well as veterans service organizations, nonprofits, private sector businesses and government agencies,” he continued. “The Department is proud to sponsor this year’s Run for the Wounded as part of our ongoing commitment to support military and veteran-related initiatives in the community.”

Participants can also bring non-perishable foods to be donated to local homeless organizations. Canned and dry goods as well as toilet paper and toiletries will be accepted.
