“On the Verge” concert series makes Armstrong Campus debut

On the Verge New Music Series is Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Armstrong Campus.

Georgia Southern University’s “On the Verge” concert series devoted to contemporary art music, will feature The Bold City Contemporary Ensemble, on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah in the Fine Arts Auditorium. This is the first performance of the “On the Verge” series on the Armstrong Campus.

The concert will feature The Bold City Contemporary Ensemble, a group of classically trained musicians who believe that tradition can be successfully continued through the performance of new music. The sextet, based in Jacksonville, Fla., will perform a collection of their music along with pieces composed by Georgia Southern students. The ensemble’s commitment to engaging, outside-the-box performances counters those who feel classical music is dying.

Martín Gendelman, associate professor and founding director of the “On The Verge” concert series said, “We are thrilled to bring ‘On The Verge’ to Savannah and hope to make it a staple of the music offering in the city.”

Created in 2012 as an outlet for Georgia Southern and surrounding communities to experience contemporary art music, the concert series has presented performances by Grammy-award winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion. They have also collaborated with organizations to bring these performers to interact with students in local public schools in Statesboro and Savannah.

General admission tickets are $6, with free admission for Georgia Southern students, faculty and staff with EagleID. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 912-344-2801, online at georgiasouthern.edu/armstrongtickets or in-person at the Fine Arts Box Office, open weekdays from noon to 3 p.m., located in the Fine Arts Hall.
