Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art hosts online exhibition ‘Juried 2020’

Anna Brooke’s piece “Gherri”

The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) is hosting its annual juried student exhibitions this spring, but for the first time they will appear online. The second of three exhibitions, “Undergraduate Juried 2020,” features student work from students enrolled in BFSDoArt undergraduate classes at any level. The exhibition is available to view online through April 24. Typically hosted in the Contemporary Gallery on the Statesboro Campus, the COVID-19 pandemic changed exhibition plans.

“This is one of my favorite exhibitions of the school year,” said gallery director Jason Hoelscher. “From graphic design and painting to small metals, photography, ceramics, sculpture, digital projects and more, the spectrum of work on display perfectly showcases the dynamic range of approaches we explore here at the BFSDoArt. The students have really stepped up with their ‘A-game’ this year. Despite this semester’s strange circumstances, our online exhibition gives a great feel of the creative intensity and drive our students possess.”

This exhibition was juried by Sheila Stewart-Leach, art consultant, curator and former head curator at the Averitt Center for the Arts in Statesboro.

The exhibit features works from 21 students including AnnaBrooke Greene, who was awarded best in show for her piece, “Gherri.” Tommy McMillan received Best 2D for his painting “Joker,” and Rachel Forehand was awarded best 3D for “Avispero.”
