Georgia Southern’s All-Girl Cheerleading team picked up its second national championship this spring at the 2011 National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Alliance Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The squad now has two national titles and one runner-up finish in the last four years.

The All-Girl team posted an 8.804 score to take the top honor over 20 other teams. Captains Bethany Burton and Janee Demery were freshmen on the team that won the first All-Girl Cheerleading national championship for Georgia Southern in 2008.

The Eagles’ coed squad also had a strong showing, taking second place – its highest finish in the competition – in only its second trip to the finals. UTEP won the title with just .037 points of separation between the Miners and Eagles.

More than 250 teams competed for a national title with teams judged on their high-energy routines that include partner stunts, pyramids, tumbling, cheer and dance.
