Festival Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Georgia Southern and the Statesboro community joined together on Sweetheart Circle to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ArtsFest. The festival, sponsored by the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, is a long-standing springtime tradition enjoyed by all ages honoring the visual and performing arts.

Artists were on hand demonstrating their talents in jewelry, folk art, painting, ceramics and photography, while works from the Department’s Jewelry Guild were also on display for purchase.

More than 25 studio shops hosted display booths where participants could paint, print, make paper from scratch, sculpt with clay, create jewelry or pose for a photo. The Humane Society invited guests to paint “Larger Than Life” dog sculptures at Paint-a-Pet, and also offered dogs and cats available for adoption.

Guests enjoyed entertainment that included renowned Flamenco dancers, ballet, puppetry, theater and jazz and rock performances. A large menagerie of animals and birds from Georgia Southern’s Center for Wildlife, including Glory, visited the festival.
