GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL APPOINTS ALUMNI TO STATE BOARDS

Lori S. Durden (‘92, ‘98), vice president for economic development at Ogeechee Technical College and Scott Smith (‘92), president and chief operating officer of Northwest Georgia Bank, were named to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. The Board oversees the 31 colleges and universities that comprise the University System of Georgia, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and the Georgia Public Library System. The Board is composed of 19 members, each of whom serves a seven year term Durden serves on the Coastal Workforce Investment Board, the board of trustees for the Foundation for Public Education in Bulloch County and the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Durden is a member of the Rotary Club of Statesboro and an alumna of Leadership Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern.

Smith serves as board member and secretary of NW Services Corp., as board member of the Catoosa County Economic Development Authority and past chairman of the board of Junior Achievement of Chattanooga. He has served as a trustee for the Dalton State College Foundation, as board member of the Georgia Banker’s Association and the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern and a master’s degree from Georgia State University.

J. Myron Faircloth (’11), a faculty member at the School of Nursing at Valdosta State University and rural family medicine practitioner at G&G Family Medicine in Valdosta, Ga., was named to the Governor’s Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Health Insurance Benefits. Faircloth earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree as a member of the program’s first cohort from Georgia Southern and is nationally certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Golden Key International Honor Society and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty. Faircloth has successfully networked with state legislators to successfully change health care policy applying to nurse practitioners in Georgia.

Lisa Hedenstrom (‘84), the senior vice president/system chief nursing officer of Piedmont Healthcare was named to the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses. Hedenstrom is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, American Organization of Nurse Executives, Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders and American College of Healthcare Executives. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgia Southern, a master’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a master’s degree in business administration from Brenau University. Hedenstrom is also certified as a nurse executive for Advanced through American Nurses Credentialing Center.
