A bronze statue of the man considered the “Father of Georgia Southern Football” has been installed at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. The nine-foot sculpture of Erk Russell was unveiled in December by the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation. Russell’s two sons — Rusty and Jay — joined University officials and Eagle fans for the dedication ceremony. Alumnus Derek Sills (‘97) and the Athletics Steering Committee kick-started fundraising and commissioning efforts for the impressive sculpture titled “One More Time.” During his eight years as head coach, Russell compiled an 83-22 record, winning three national championships and guiding the 1989 team to a perfect 15-0 record.
