Inaugural Fundraiser Golf Tournament a Success

The Georgia Southern University Foundation hosted the inaugural Southern Classic Golf Tournament Oct. 21 at the historic Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga., raising more than $51,000 for student scholarships.

One of the finest golfing venues in the world, the Club was established in 1945 by golfing legend Bobby Jones.

Some of the participants hitting the links that day included PGA golfer and alumnus Aron Price, former Georgia Southern quarterback Tracy Ham, Trip Addison, Teresa and Andrew MacCartney, Marshal Mize and Jim Van Epps. The winning foursome of Matt Chesser, Rob Whitaker, Jayce Stepp and Karl Lutjens placed first in the tournament.

Tournament co-chairs Tommy Bond and Jim Medbery were encouraged by the large number of Eagle supporters at the event. “We had a number of great golfers and athletes and this was a tremendous success,” said Bond. – Mary Beth Spence
