1960s

Julian Deal, CPA (‘60) was elected chair of the Georgia Board of Accountancy. The seven-member board is responsible for licensing certified public accountants and public accounting firms in Georgia. Deal is a recipient of Georgia Southern’s Outstanding Alumnus of the Year award and has been inducted into the College of Business Administration’s Hall of Fame.

1970s

Hala Moddelmog (‘79) took office in January as the President of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber represents more than 4,000 company members and is one of the most influential business organizations in Georgia. The former Arby’s Restaurant Group president is the first woman to run the organization in its 154-year history.

1980s

Kevin Dutton (‘83) has been named vice president for operations finance at Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. In his new role, Dutton leads financial functions for Gulfstream Operations in the U.S. and Mexico.

Lawanda Allen (‘86, ‘03, ‘11) has been named the 2015 Bulloch County Teacher of the Year. Since taking the job as a music teacher at Langston Chapel Middle School in Statesboro, Allen has developed a competitive choral program in which students are competing for district and All-State Chorus honors.

2000s

Chris Rustin, Dr.P.H., (’04, ’13) has been appointed the director of environmental health for the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH). Prior to his appointment as director, Rustin served as deputy director of environmental health at GDPH for nearly five years.

Garret Lazenby (’04), a broker with Sterling Risk Advisors, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Transportation Club of Atlanta. He will serve for a one-year term.
