Whether used in the classroom or in their personal lives, students are not the only ones who use digital apps. In each issue of Georgia Southern magazine, we ask faculty members to share what apps they just can’t live without.

Google Hangouts
“I use Google Hangouts for our online courses to interact with our students and practice their language skills.” – Mauricio Peña Sánchez, Spanish Lecturer, Department of Foreign Languages

mSecure
“I could not live without mSecure. It was recommended to me by Ron Connor, and I can’t imagine how I ever did without it. It securely saves all of my multiple logins and passwords, I add more to it all the time, and I refer to it at least once a day (so now you know how challenged my memory is). It isn’t free, but you definitely get what you pay for. It sure beats the 3×5 card I carried around in my wallet….” – Dellarie L. Shilling, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing

Top Hat
“I use Top Hat in my class to assess learning, give quizzes and complete anonymous opinion questions. I have it on the computer but the students all use it as an App on their phones or tablets.” – Katy Gregg, Assistant Professor of Child and Family Development, School of Human Ecology

Evernote
“My favorite app is Evernote. I use it both personally and professionally. For conferences, Evernote helps me keep track of my airport map, shuttle reservation, hotel and conference registration codes, city maps, local transportation information, restaurant addresses and phone numbers, links to meeting agendas and a few shopping ideas. I’ve also used the app as an easy way to keep notes for speaker introductions, presentations and almost anything for which I used to use paper. Being able to sync Evernote from my office computer to my Droid and my iPad is one of the reasons it’s my favorite.” – Ann Hamilton, Associate Dean of the Library, Professor, Zach S. Henderson Library
