Saying Farewell to An Armstrong Legend

Professor Emeritus Robert Strozier is remembered as a poet, distinguished speaker, mentor and larger-than-life English professor on the Armstrong Campus. He passed away April 28, 2019, in Savannah. Dr. Strozier graduated from   Armstrong Junior College in 1949 with a degree in liberal studies. After completing his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at other institutions, he returned to Armstrong where he taught generations of students for more than 40 years. An active civic leader, he was a founding member of the foundation that purchased the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home and turned it into a significant literary center in downtown Savannah. The annual faculty Robert I. Strozier Lecture Series is named in honor of the beloved professor. Helen, his wife of 63 years, and an Armstrong alumna, died just five weeks earlier.
