YOU’RE INVITED! Submit summer and fall programming for The Eagle Experience into Eagle Engage by June 7

The Eagle Experience Steering Committee is actively coordinating plans for the summer and fall 2024 Eagle Experience programming to welcome new students to Georgia Southern University and YOU’RE INVITED!

As we move into the fourth year of this holistic approach to the orientation and transition of our new students, we are making adjustments based on successes and challenges from previous years as well as the Wednesday, Aug. 14, class start date. Your feedback and participation continue to play a critical role in Eagle Experience initiatives.

Our collective effort as a University to intentionally program and engage students across all campuses and all divisions as well as assess our effectiveness throughout the process is how The Eagle Experience is a two-time national award winner with NASPA (2022 and 2023).  Georgia Southern’s Eagle Experience is considered an exemplary/national model initiative for effective student transition!

The Eagle Experience will kick off this summer with SOAR for new summer and fall students. However, we are focusing much attention on the first weekend and weeks of the fall semester. Numerous details are still being worked out, but there are some confirmed events already on the calendar.

How Can You Be Involved?

  • View the Summer/Fall 2024 Working Calendar
    • Click HERE to view dates, times, and preliminary information on the scheduled events referenced above. You will see there is a tab for each of our campuses. More events will be added as departments/organizations contribute their events.
  • Talk with your team and be a part of The Eagle Experience
    • There is a lot of empty space and opportunity on this calendar yet to be filled. This is an opportunity for your department, program, college, and/or area to be involved! We are asking that our Georgia Southern faculty and staff (and the departments/organizations you represent) consider how you can participate in new student transition by hosting programs throughout the year, but especially in the first weeks of the fall semester.  To ensure alignment of programs and activities, please review The Eagle Experience student and supporter outcomes HERE.
  • Enter your Eagle Experience event/activity into Eagle Engage
    • If you are an existing user of Eagle Engage, submit your events as you normally would.  If you do not have an organizational account, see this How To Guide for instructions.
    • The Steering Committee will pull programs from Eagle Engage into the planning calendar and marketing materials for new students. To have them included, events should be entered into Eagle Engage by June 7.
    • Any events or activities that are in Eagle Engage is what The Eagle Experience uses to promote involvement to all incoming students with daily texts and weekly emails. It is to your benefit to have your departments/organization’s events in Eagle Engage to more largely promote.
  • Other Notes
    • Summer programming, move-in weekend activities, volunteer opportunities with Operation Move-in, New Student Convocation and welcome tents, as well as ongoing fall semester events, will continue to be designed this spring and summer to ensure a strong welcome to our incoming students. There are so many ways to welcome, orient and aid in the transition of our new students to set them up for success, and we want you to be involved!
    • If you have any questions or want to brainstorm ways that you and your unit can be involved, feel free to reach out to us!

With Eagle Spirit!
